Obama’s approval rating up due to payroll tax cut debacle: Poll

The (New York) Daily News reported (“Tax break means big bounce for Bam in poll,” 12/27/11) that a Gallup poll found that 160 million Americans, or 47 percent, up from 45 percent in July, approved of the job President Barack Obama was doing. The increase is attributed to the way he handled the payroll tax cut extension controversy.

The survey showed that Obama avoided blowback from the fight by standing his ground with Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives and improved his standing with the public.

Congress approved a two-month extension of the payroll tax cut for workers and will negotiate a full-year extension in the near future.

I think the Obama administration should milk this news for all it is worth. The president needs to build up as much momentum as possible going into the November elections. It is also refreshing to see him standing up to Republicans, and hopefully he continues to stand up to them.
