Dole blasts current state of Republican Party

June 2, 2013

The (New York) Daily News reported (“Dole-ing out criticism to GOP,” 5/27/13) that former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, of Kansas, criticized members of his party for becoming too conservative and attack-oriented.

“They ought to put a sign on the National Committee doors that says, ‘Closed for repairs,’ until New Year’s Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas,” he said on Fox News May 26.

“[Former President Ronald] Reagan couldn’t have made it. Certainly, Nixon couldn’t have made it, because he had ideas. [I] might’ve made it, but I doubt it,” he added.

Dole was the GOP’s presidential nominee in 1996.

I think Dole made some good points, but it might be too late for the GOP. Instead of learning from its mistakes since 2008, it has constantly moved so far right that it is leaving behind the rest of the country. Hopefully, this country’s hyper-partisanship will end in the near future and the nation will continue moving forward under a leftist banner.
